The root of this plant has been used for sore throats and other medical conditions. Its history as a medical natural remedy dates back to the Middle Ages and the root has a substance that is gelatin-like. It is called mucilage and what it does is to coat the throat. It also lubricates it too. The coating and lubrication take place when a person swallows. Marshmallow root in lozenge form was tested on animals and found to be effective. It is non-toxic in the description, even at very high doses, which is a good thing.

Recipe Directions:

Make sure to fill up one quart jar, which is 1-liter, with cold water. Take the marshmallow root and put it in cheesecloth. Tie it up into a bundle. Place the bundle into the cold water in the jar. Completely submerge the root and put the tied end of the bundle itself over the lip area of the jar. Put the lid on the jar and screw it tight. Let the root infuse over night or for about 8 hours minimum. Remove the bundle after it has infused for the time period required. Pour the desired amount of the mixture into a glass and add sweetener or honey to taste. After you have added sweetener, do sip on it, throughout the day to help lessen your sore throat symptoms.
